Management
The Office of Staff Development uses the on-line registration system, building audits, and assistance from building administration to manage the completion of this contractual requirement.
Scheduling for 2009-2010
- Staff have the opportunity to select the date and time to fulfill this obligation but building administration may suggest a particular class.
- Classes may be taken on the same day or two different days.
- Class times will be 7:30 AM - 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM - 4:30 PM.
- Classes will be held on the following dates:

Tuesday, August 4, 2009
Wednesday, August 5, 2009
Saturday, August 29, 2009
Friday, October 16, 2009
Tuesday, January 5, 2010
Friday, February 12, 2010
Monday, April 5, 2010
- Classes will not be offered after April 6, 2010 for the 2009-10 school year.
Registration Timeline
- Staff will register for classes through the MPS on-line registration system.
- Returning staff will register for classes between February 9-20, 2009.
- New 2009-2010 staff will register for classes during Fall Workshop in August 2009 with their mentors’ assistance.
PLC Collaboration Option
- This option may be selected to fulfill 4 of the 8 hour obligation.
- All PLC team members must register for this option to be approved.
- All PLC teams should register between February 9-20, 2009.
- Building PLC teams should submit their detailed agenda and identified end product to their administration by March 16, 2009.
- District Singleton PLC teams should submit their detailed agenda and identified end product to their district contact person by March 16, 2009. (e.g. MEP Curriculum Facilitator, Special Education Coordinator, etc.) Each PLC team member is responsible for submitting the end product to his/her evaluator.
Possible Assessments and Plans For Analysis During PLC Collaboration Time
Common Formative Assessments, Pre and Post Tests, District Assessments, State Assessments, Last Year/Semester Course or Class Data
- Analyze data and suggested curriculum pacing guide to create differentiated reteaching lessons/ enrichment activities.
- Create common formative assessments that align with course outcomes and objectives.
- Evaluate common formative assessments then develop questions that better align to the course outcomes and objectives.
- Based on the area of need defined by the data, research best practices/strategies for classroom instruction, then create a plan of implementation to meet the needs of all students.
- Collaborate with vertical team/department and analyze scope and sequence of curriculum then create a plan of action based on the analysis results.
- Analyze multiple years of historical performance. Identify trends and create plan of action to better meet any deficiencies.
Required Classes
Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT)
This class is required for all staff and will be taken once during the three year cycle. This class will comply with the state requirements of the MPS Poverty Plan and the Learning Community.
Professional Learning Communities for New Staff
This class is required for all new staff and will be taken once during the three year cycle. New staff will be introduced to Professional Learning Communities and become acclimated to the collaborative team culture in MPS.
